Why we built the Hub

The idea started with a problem Mark experienced in his own business: HR and workplace information was spread across disconnected systems. He wanted staff to manage time, expenses, Health & Safety and training together. That practical need became the starting point for Employee Passport.

SMEs deserve support that understands their business. Templates and generic advice can only take you so far: every team, workplace and situation is different.

We listen to the whole puzzle and work through it with you and for you. That means hands-on help, clear decisions and practical follow-through, backed by a Hub that keeps information connected. The goal is time back and support you can turn to, rather than another list of tasks to carry alone.

People do not come to us to buy HR. They come with a puzzle.

Across more than 15 years and millions of pounds of HR and Health & Safety services sold, Mark has learned that the real need is rarely the service label. It is the manager facing a difficult conversation, the owner trying to find the right record, or the team that needs a clear next step.

What businesses want is time back, help making sense of the problem and someone who will support them through it. That is how we see our work. HR advice, Health & Safety expertise and software are the tools we use to help.

Mark Whitfield, CEO — the experience behind our approach

Our story

Turning the idea into software needed specialist expertise and investment. Mark approached Wrexham University, which proposed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership. The University’s account records £300,000 in funding from Innovate UK and the Welsh Government.

Over three years, Mark worked with academics and graduates on the software and the business’s commercial direction. The relationship also opened routes into employment and work experience, with graduates contributing to coding, dashboards, data analysis and system improvements.

What puzzle can we help you solve?

Tell us what is taking your time or holding your team back. We will listen and help you find the next step.

Named experts. Practical work completed. Support you can measure.

Your business gets sector-specific support from named advisers. Their individual qualifications and experience are detailed in the team profiles above, including HR and Health & Safety specialists. We help complete the work, including onboarding, letters, risk assessments and on-site support for difficult conversations and workplace risks.

We build a year-ahead action plan from your audit, contact you monthly if you have not called us, and review Health & Safety progress quarterly. When actions are outstanding, we help complete them. If you arrive with an existing audit, we use it to get the tasks completed as part of your onboarding.

Software onboarding includes four separate installation days: administrators, managers, employees and a final setup review. Our technical team walks and talks you through the setup until you are happy and properly onboarded.

Choose pay-as-you-go support or a 12-month support agreement with the agreed price unchanged during the term. If you feel EPL is not helping or providing the support you need, our commitment is to let you leave. Software is month by month, with flexibility to move up or down.
